Nice To Meet You
About Me
Hey, I’m Nick – pizza-loving wedding photographer and keen runner based in a sleepy village in north Cambs.
I shot my first wedding in 2019 and got the bug immediately. In 2024 I made the leap to go full-time and haven’t looked back since. It’s such a genuine and huge privilege to be able to do this job. I get such a buzz from capturing the happiness and the vibe of your wedding day, and from hearing all the stories that brought you together.
I don’t take myself too seriously and my approach is relaxed, fun and down-to-earth.
When not with a camera in hand I‘m often out and about with our hyperactive spaniel Charlie and my other half Caroline. I watch a lot of rubbish tv (murder mysteries, sports and series like the Traitors), enjoy a good glass of real ale, and listen to indie / electronic music and podcasts.
I create documentary-style wedding photos which are vibrant and fun. Chic, natural-looking images with an editorial style. I won’t ask you to do any awkward posing and I don’t intrude on your day. I simply observe what is happening around me and capture real-life, unstaged moments.
I am very approachable when you first meet me, but on the day I will simply be a quiet guest who will blend into the background. So you can just relax and be yourselves.
Loves:
Peanut butter and marmite on toast (trust me it works!), pizza and dark chocolate
Running and post-run endorphins
Alan Partridge
Live music (anything from 60s onwards)
Dislikes:
Negative people
The sound of my own voice
Pot-holes.
My Ethos:
FRIENDLINESS – I’m a big believer in old-fashioned courtesy and respect to others (holding doors open and that kind of thing!) Plus the power of a friendly smile. So in addition to taking beautiful photos of your celebrations I will be a quietly supportive and respectful presence. I want you to think of me like a friend with a camera. Whenever needed I will often jump in to help people out when they’re struggling during a wedding day (e.g. wardrobe issues or helping to locate guests who might have got lost!)
REALISM – I take photos of real moments that look true to life because they are genuinely unstaged. They will be candid observations of your day. And I really want you to love your wedding photos just as much in future as you do today. So my editing style is colourful, stylish and also natural. Your photos will therefore look timeless.
DOCUMENTARY – I believe the best photos are often made when people are not even aware they’re being taken. So I like to blend into the crowd and take candid images.
The only exceptions to this approach will be when I arrange some (very loosely) posed couple portraits and group photos. These will be simple, relaxed 15-minute sessions. Nothing cheesy, awkward or too forced. It’s just not my style to impose myself on proceedings. I simply want you and your guests to relax and enjoy the party.
The Right Fit
Why Me?
Lots of us can take great photos these days, so why choose me?
What you’re really getting if you choose me as your wedding photographer is someone who will deliver stylish and beautiful images AND make you feel relaxed.
I will seek out those true-to-life smiles, the belly laughs and the big hugs. Real, authentic moments. I want to take photos that you can relive in future years and still be struck by the same feelings and emotions.
I use small, lightweight Fujifilm cameras as these allow me to be really discreet & your guests will hardly notice that I was there. I don’t hide in the background (as this would look creepy and weird!) But I do quietly blend into the crowd. This unobtrusive approach means that I am able to capture all those genuinely candid moments and emotions.
FAQs
How long will you stay on the day?
The answer to this depends on what kind of photography package you choose.
I offer a reduced rate for shorter weddings (my mini-wedding package) compared to my full-day wedding packages.
Do you do group photos?
Although many couples are happy for an entirely candid approach and the majority of my photos are unposed, I am happy to do group photos on request.
I don’t want to take time out of your celebration so I recommend taking no more than about 10 to 15 minutes for these photos – typically consisting of your bridal party, immediate family and your parents.
It is helpful if you can nominate someone to round up your guests in sequence; this might be a groomsman, bridesmaid or someone who has a strong voice. Once we’ve captured a nice range of these group portraits you can safely return to the canapés and fizz!
What type of events do you do?
I cover a range of different events although I specialise in weddings and engagement photo shoots.
I’m equally at home capturing traditional, religious wedding days as I am with shooting more alternative, humanist weddings. And I cover all types of weddings as I’m a believer in equality and diversity.
How do we book you for our wedding date?
You need to be comfortable with me, so I always encourage an informal coffee or chat on the phone or on Zoom first; an opportunity to see how well we get on as much as it is to talk about your day.
The next bit is totally up to you! Couples can reserve me for their wedding day up to 2 years in advance once they have paid the booking fee.
Is it worth having a 2nd photographer?
The short answer to this is – yes!
There are multiple good reasons to hire a second photographer to assist the primary photographer. You will be guaranteed a greater range of angles and more photos of the day. For example at the ceremony my assistant can photograph wider shots from the back of the venue whilst I take closer, more intimate images from the front.
A second photographer is another pair of eyes – they bring their own vision and they can grab lots of fun candids of the main party.
How will I receive my photos after the wedding?
After your big day, all the final images will have been individually edited by me and you will receive a private link to a preview gallery for sharing with friends and family within 3 days.
There is no upper limit on the number of final photos I will send you in your full gallery (usually delivered within 4 weeks of your wedding).
Are you insured - and do you have back-up?
Yes, and yes!
I am fully insured including comprehensive public liability insurance. I have multiple systems of back-up including spare cameras, memory cards and batteries which I bring to every wedding. Plus I use an external hard-drive and cloud storage for additional back-up of your photos.
In the (very unlikely) situation that I am unable to shoot your wedding due to illness or some form of emergency then I have a number of associate professional photographers who would be able to cover for my absence.
Can my guests take photos?
Yes absolutely, its your day!
However, it is definitely worth considering having an ‘unplugged wedding’ – where your guests are encouraged not to use any phones, tablets, cameras or any other electronic devices. There are multiple advantages of the unplugged approach:
- Your guests will be more engaged and less distracted
- They are more likely to clap as you leave the ceremony
- When you’re walking down the aisle you will see your friends and families’ faces, not the back of their iPhones!
- Your professional photos will look much better.
If you would like to have an unplugged wedding then mention this on your wedding invites, your order of service and other signage. And your officiant can remind people about this before the ceremony starts.
